Post Burns Contracture Post burns contractures are as the name suggests scarring of skin following burns. The thickness of the skin damaged determines the amount of scarring which can be unsightly and also interfere in the smooth functioning of the area in which it is located.
Post burns contractures can be managed by both surgical and non-surgical methods. Very often inability to fully move the joint where the contracture occurs necessitates surgery to release tissue enhancing greater movement and preventing the joint from getting frozen. The use of tissue expanders to give a matching skin cover over exposed areas has given good results.
