Post trauma aesthetics is an area where expertise is sought from various specialists such as dermatologists, orthopaedicians, dentists and opthalmologists. The extent of functional damage is assessed and the treatment modalities are considered depending on the cosmetic appearance. Th advantage of a "team approach" is having multiple procedures done at the same time avoiding multiple anaesthetic procedures. For example following a road traffic accident a person can have damage to the cheek and jaw area. Here an MRI and X-rays are taken to look at the extent of maxillary injury and dentation. The teeth are fixed at the same time as the fractures of the maxilla and any other cosmetic surgery such as rhinoplasty can be done at the same time.
